Payactiv and Brigit both help workers avoid payday loans — but through different mechanisms. Payactiv is employer-partnered earned wage access; Brigit is a direct-to-consumer cash advance app with a subscription model. Here is how they stack up.

Payactiv vs Brigit — Which One Should You Use?

Fundamental difference

  • Payactiv: gives you access to money you have already earned, through your employer's payroll feed. Not a loan.
  • Brigit: advances you money against your expected paycheck based on bank-account cash-flow analysis. More loan-like, though not technically a loan under its structure.

When Payactiv wins

  • If your employer offers Payactiv, the earned-wage model is cheaper and structurally safer than Brigit's cash-flow model.
  • If you want the full stack — Card, Savings, Bill Pay, counseling — Payactiv has it; Brigit does not.
  • If you dislike monthly subscriptions, Payactiv has none.

When Brigit might fit

  • Your employer does not offer Payactiv or any EWA, and you want a cash-flow advance tool.
  • You value Brigit's cash-flow forecasting and overdraft protection framing.
  • You are comfortable paying a subscription for predictable access.

The verdict for most workers

If Payactiv is available at your employer, use the service. The economics are better, the stack is deeper, and the earned-wage-access model is cleaner than cash-flow advance.

What about using both?

We generally advise against stacking EWA and cash-advance products. Two systems trying to debit the same paycheck create reconciliation risk and increase the odds of a mistimed draft that triggers overdraft fees at your bank.

Elena's bottom line: Payactiv first if your employer offers it. Brigit as a fallback only if no employer-partnered EWA is on the table.
